German Petersen Cortés

Social and data scientist, founder and CEO of Polydata and member of the Mexican National System of Researchers (SNI). He holds a Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin), an M.A. from El Colegio de México (Colmex), and a B.A. from the Western Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESO).

 

As Polydata CEO, he works with companies of industries such as health, retail, beverages, food, real estate, bathroom, energy, and transportation, in their transformation into data-driven and artificial intelligence-driven organizations, with operations in Mexico, USA, and other countries.

 

As a social and data scientist, Dr. Petersen has published in journals of sociology, economics, political science, and public policy, such as Democratization, Latin American Politics and Society, Revista de Ciencia Política, Revista de Economía Institucional, Revista Mexicana de Sociología, Política y Gobierno, Gestión y Política Pública, Foro Internacional, Espiral, and POSTData. His newspaper and magazine publications have appeared in The Washington Post, Nexos, Mural -where he currently publishes every other week-, among others. His research has been cited in more than 80 scientific articles and books.

 

Besides Mexico, he has presented his work in seven countries: USA (University of Notre Dame and UT Austin), UK (University of Oxford and University of Southampton), Peru (Pontifical Catholic University), Argentina (Torcuato di Tella University), Greece (Panteion University), Colombia, and Costa Rica.

 

During his Ph.D., he was a Fulbright-García Robles Scholar and also received funding from the Mexican National Council for Science and Technology (Conacyt). His studies and research were also supported by the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies (LLILAS) of UT Austin, The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs of Syracuse University, the Office of the Graduate Dean of UT Austin, as well as the following professional associations: Latin American Studies Association (LASA), American Political Science Association (APSA), Midwest Political Science Association (MPSA), and American Sociological Association (ASA).

 

He has taught social science research methods, political science, sociology of knowledge, and theories of development in Mexico and USA.
